What is the Canadian Super Visa, and How to Apply for One?
Canada super visa is a parent and grandparent super visa issued by the Canadian government. This allows the parents and grandparents of permanent residents of Canada to visit them in Canada. This visa helps family members continue to stay in Canada for up to 2 years at a time.
This multi-entry visa is mandatory and offers multiple entries into Canada for up to 10 years. The fees for processing the application start from CAD 100. Please note that the processing times may vary from country to country. Super visa eligibility
- You must be the parents or grandparents of a Canadian citizen
- You must have a signed letter from your grandchild inviting you to Canada
- This invitation must include a promise of financial support during your visit, a list and number of people in the house you’re going to stay, a copy of your child or grandchild’s Canadian citizenship document
- Medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company, must be valid for at least 1 year from the date of entry and offer coverage of $100,000 and proof that the medical insurance has been paid
Other additional requirements are:
- A super visa must be applied from outside Canada
- You can’t be inadmissible to Canada
- You are required to take an immigration medical exam
- Must clear health eligibility check.
Factors considered before you enter Canada
A number of factors will be checked before you are qualified for a super visa. Some of them are:
- The purpose of your visit
- Your family and finances
- Your ties to your home country
- The economic stability of your home country
- The political stability of your home country
How to apply for a super visa?
While applying for a visa, you must provide your biometrics (photograph and fingerprints). The application process can be done in two ways online and paper. Whatever method you choose, essential documents are a must.
Applying the application online
If you choose to apply for a super visa online you are required to provide electronic copies of the necessary documents, a credit card to make the payment.
Applying the application by paper
This process is done manually, pay the fee in Canadian dollars, provide hard copies of required documents, a proof that grandparent or parent wants to visit in Canada. A proof from the grandchild stating he meets the LICO.

The time to process the visa application depends on

- The immigration authorities.
Preparing for the arrival
As soon as parents/ grandparents arrive in Canada, BSO (Border Services Officer) welcomes them. They will request all travel documents and passports. The officer stamps the passport and you are welcome to stay in Canada.
